Video shows bus 'explosion' in Wishaw as fire crews battle blaze

Fire crews were called to the scene of a bus 'explosion' in Wishaw last night, as it burst into flames on Netherton Road.

Video footage captures two fire crews battling the blaze after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received the call at around 8.15pm.

Ryan Emonds shared a video of the fire on Facebook filmed while passing in a car on a nearby street.

The clip shows the vehicle burning next to a set of traffic lights as firefighters try to contain the flames.

Ryan commented on Facebook: “Just heard an almighty bang and looked out our back window to all sorts of smoke so drove round to see.

“Bus had exploded at the temporary lights at Netherton - hope no one was on it.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue later said they had since left the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.15pm on Monday, March 9, to reports of a bus on fire on Netherton Road, Wishaw, North Lanarkshire.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene alongside emergency service partners.

"Crews worked to extinguish the fire and left after making the area safe."

It is unclear at this stage whether anyone was injured as a result of the fire.
