Video shows Brussels teenagers throwing car down flight of stairs onto underground station platform

A video has emerged purporting to show a group of teenagers throwing a car down a flight of stairs into a metro station in Brussels.

The extraordinary footage was posted to YouTube on New Year's Eve, and has since been viewed more than 75,000 times.

Belgian police said the incident took place at around 8pm on 31 December while the station was open to passengers, and people can be seen in the video coming up the escalator on the other side as the vehicle crashes down three flights.

According to Belgian daily La Libre, the incident caused the closure of the Clemenceau station and, as of late on New Year's Day, officials had still been unable to remove the car from the platform.

Guy Sablon, a spokesman for train operator STIB, said the incident involved a small green electric car and that, despite the dangerous actions of the group of teenagers, no injuries were reported.

Broadcaster VRT quoted Brussels police as saying one young person had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
