Video shows 'beautiful flames' of sulphur fire

Eerie vision shows sulphur burning

A US fire department has posted mesmerising footage of "beautiful flames" from a sulphur fire at a recycling plant.

The fire was caused by a vehicle coming into contact with a sulphur mound.

"Despite the beautiful flames, burning sulphur creates a hazardous gas called sulphur dioxide," Worland Volunteer Fire Department in Wyoming wrote in a post about the fire.

"Burning sulphur creates sulphur dioxide [SO2] gas that has a very strong, choking odour. The fire was burning in a bowl-shaped area, allowing all run-off to be collected in the fire area.

"A minimal amount of water was used to cool the surface of the sulphur and reduce the temperature below the molten stage."

No-one was injured in the fire.
