Video has emerged showing destruction in the city of Melilla, after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday morning.
As the video shows, buildings were damaged by the tremor, forcing residents out of their houses in the middle of the night.
Around 200 residents of the Spanish-controlled city in northern Africa were reported to have suffered damage to their property.
Roads and sidewalks were closed due to concrete blocks on the ground which had fallen from buildings around the city.
The earthquake was recorded in the Mediterranean Sea, 100 miles south-east of Malaga, Spain.
At 4:22am, it struck 38.5 miles north east of the Moroccan city of Al Hociema at a depth of 20 miles according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake was followed by a 5.1 magnitude tremor 12 minutes later.
Tremors and aftershocks were felt throughout the region including in the cities of Malaga, Cordoba, Seville and Granada.
