Video shows 53 Degrees fire at its height last night as Liverpool building is destroyed

This is the moment a huge fire ravaged through a Liverpool city centre bar and restaurant.

Footage taken from a passerby shows 53 Liverpool going up in flames , at around 4.45am this morning.

Mersey Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene, on Berry Street, five minutes after receiving a report of a fire at the popular venue.

Dozens of firefighters and ten fire engines were deployed to the fire and the area was immediately cordoned off.

A video from the scene shows the towering inferno firefighters were faced with, when the fire was at its peak.

Flames can be seen reaching high out of the roof of the building as witnesses stand back to observe the devastating sight.

Meanwhile the whole inside of the building is illuminated with the flames, that can be seen destroying the rooms within.

The harrowing fire lights up the sky and the street as it ruins the former TriBeca building, as thick black smoke billows across the street.

In a close up, the inside of one of the downstairs rooms can be seen completely engulfed in flames.

A table and chairs can be made out behind the shutters as the ceiling falls down on to them, and firefighters douse the property with water from their jets.

Devastating pictures after the fire had subsided show the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

The roof and internal floors of the building have collapsed and firefighters remain at the scene today.

It is understood no-one was injured in the fire and due to the quick response from firefighters the fire did not spread to other buildings.

However workers and residents living nearby were urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to high volumes of smoke in the area.

MFRS Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Mottram said: "Our crews have done an amazing job in getting this fire under control so quickly and effectively.

"In challenging circumstances, given the property’s close proximity to other buildings, crews successfully contained the fire to the original property.

"The speed of crews’ response and firefighting actions ensured the fire, which was well alight on our arrival, did not spread further."

Neighbouring business Red Door tweeted to inform customers that the venue would be closed today.

In a tweet the bar posted: "WE ARE CLOSED TONIGHT! Due to the fire in 53 last night we will be closed this evening.

"Like a Phoenix we will be open over the weekend as soon as we have the all clear creating the soundtrack to your weekend.

"Luckily no one was hurt and we send best wishes to 53."

Other businesses close by told the ECHO how they had not been affected by the blaze.

American Pizza Slice on Bold Street told our reporter: "Business has been normal, we haven't had to close and people are still coming in."

Meanwhile a member of staff at Time Cafe on Colquitt Street said:  "We've been really busy, we had to be diverted this morning and go round the back and the smoke was coming in a little bit, but we've been fine."
