The summer gift-giving season is in full swing at department stores, and in response to the increase in the number of people who avoid going out because of the pandemic, department stores are enhancing their online sales lineup and creating videos to highlight the best aspects of their products.

The Nihombashi Takashimaya shopping center in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, set up a special gift center on Tuesday. The aisles in the area were expanded and customers are encouraged to make reservations to visit. It features an assortment of frozen breads to enjoy at home and local gifts.

"We will also prepare products exclusively for online shopping," an official in charge said.

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores Co. has opened a virtual sales floor on its website. Customers can roam around the area via screen and view a video of the buyer in charge explaining the products.

Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. is promoting the strong points of its product lineup via its YouTube channel.
