Video reveals MP Richard Burgon did launch anti-Zionist tirade

Shadow justice secretary Richard Burgon repeatedly denied he had used the words to Andrew Marr

A leading shadow cabinet member was today accused of falsely denying he told a meeting: “Zionism is the enemy of peace.”

Shadow justice secretary Richard Burgon repeatedly denied he had used the words but video footage revealed by the Guido Fawkes website today appeared to show him making the comment at a 2014 meeting.

It showed Mr Burgon telling the audience: “The enemy of the Palestinian people are Zionists and Zionism is the enemy of peace and the enemy of the Palestinian people.”

On the BBC’s Daily Politics Show in March 2018 presenter Andrew Neil asked the MP if he had said “Zionism is the enemy of peace.” He claimed that he “didn’t say that” and “that’s not my view”.

His Commons office did not respond when contacted by the Standard today.

Labour Friends of Israel director Jennifer Gerber said Mr Burgon had “deployed half-denials and weasel words to escape responsibility for his appalling suggestion” and called on him to apologise.
