Alleged bus passenger attacker charged with assault

A man who allegedly assaulted Brisbane bus passengers in separate attacks late last year has been charged with two counts of assault.

The man, aged in his late 30s, was picked up by police on Tuesday afternoon while walking on Lutwyche Road on Brisbane's northside.

A 40-year-old man and 18-year-old woman received facial injuries after two separate attacks on buses in December last year.

Police are urging anyone who may have been a victim of a similar incident to come forward.

Inspector Lynne Asher said patrolling officers recognised the man from CCTV footage provided of the incidents.

"The male person was wearing a shirt similar to what he's been seen wearing on the day of one of the assaults and that red, striped shirt is quite distinctive," she said.

"I think any member of the community who is assaulted going about their day-to-day business is an absolute tragedy but we couldn't have apprehended this offender without the help of the community."

She said the man was currently assisting them with their inquiries.

Inspector Asher said the injuries suffered by the victims were significant enough to cause bruising, swelling and pain.

The man is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court on February 4.
