Video quilt to provide stunning record of life through the decades in Crossmichael

A patchwork quilt with a difference is being made in Crossmichael.

A special digital quilt is being created as part of the village’s living history project.

Crossmichael Heritage Group has been busy interviewing village residents for the quilt which will take the form of a large screen featuring pictures of everyone who has taken part.

People will be able to hear the personal stories of those who have taken part by touching their photograph and watching a video.

Work on the project continued this week with filming in the village.

Ahrlene Fuller, who is involved in the project, said: “We had Ian McBride, who is the longest living Crossmichael born male in the village, and also Lily Shaw, who is the longest living Crossmichael born female, who were telling their stories.”

A special heritage hub is being set up in the church hall which will also be home to the quilt. It is hoped to be up and running by the summer with those who took part invited along to a special preview.

The old hearse house, which Crossmichael Community Trust bought from the council last year for the token fee of £1, will also form part of the hub.

Funding for the project has come from the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership.
