Video of strange 'UFO' spotted flying over the North East believed to be Nasa rocket

A strange “UFO” spotted flying over the North East is believed to be a rocket launched by Nasa.

Locals took to social media to share sightings of the strange triangular light passing over the area.

One woman in Sunderland said she “thought it was a helicopter at first but there was no noise at all”.

Graeme Spry, from Longbenton, Newcastle, filmed the unusual flying object after seeing it over his house at around 10.30pm.

Its appearance is thought to be linked to the launch of the Atlas V rocket.

Latest reports suggest the strange conical object seen across the UK was part of the rocket re-entering the Earth's atmosphere after launching a satellite into space.

The United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in the US yesterday.

The rocket successfully carried Landsat 9 - a NASA satellite meant to help monitor Earth's land and coastal regions - into orbit before separating and moving to a lower orbit to deploy rideshare Cubesats.

According to NASA, Landsat 9 can take more than 700 images of Earth per day.

The launch had previously been delayed because of supply chain troubles that limited access to liquid nitrogen.
