VIDEO: Joe Flacco gets second opinion, expected to miss 4-6 weeks

A second opinion on the neck injury Joe Flacco suffered Sunday affirms reports from early this week that the quarterback is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks.

The Broncos (2-6) quarterback suffered a herniated disk in his neck as Denver lost 15-13 visiting the Colts (5-2) in Week 8. Brandon Allen, who was claimed off of waiver wires Sept. 1, is set to start at quarterback as the Broncos host the Browns Sunday. The team has a bye week Nov. 10 during Week 10.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the second opinion that 34-year-old Flacco received supports the existing assessment that the injury will not require surgery. Schefter also reports that the veteran quarterback is awaiting two more opinions on the injury — Dr. Robert Watkins in LA and Dr. Jack Kelley in CT.

Flacco is under contract with Denver through 2021 but was critical of the team’s coaching staff after its loss to Indianapolis Sunday saying that “it just feels like (the Broncos) are afraid to lose a football game,” rather than playing to win.
