Video: Is UFC 296 do or die for Colby Covington’s title hopes?

Colby Covington once again gets a shot at gold in the main event of UFC 296.

For Covington (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) to become undisputed welterweight champion, he will have to knock off Leon Edwards, who is on an 11-fight winning streak. Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) claimed and then defended the title in back-to-back bouts against Kamaru Usman.

Covington has held a piece of the title before. He defeated Rafael dos Anjos for the interim strap at UFC 225. Since then, he had two opportunities to win the title, both against the aforementioned Usman, and came up short twice.

At UFC 296, it will be over 21 months since Covington’s last appearance inside the octagon, when he won a decision against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Considering his recent inactivity and two losses in undisputed title fights, will this be his last hope of becoming champion?

Is this a do-or-die situation, or could he navigate his way back to another shot if unuseful against Edwards?

Our “Spinning Back Clique” panelists Farah Hannoun, Brian “Goze” Garcia and Dan Tom discuss Covington’s title outlook with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
