Video: Is PFL smart for putting $1 million season finals on pay-per-view?

The UFC is king of the jungle when it comes to pay-per-views in MMA.

Other promotions have tried. Most haven’t found enough success with the formula to stick with it over the long haul. But next month, the PFL will go down the pay-per-view road for the first time – and it will do it when it matters most.

The PFL’s 2022 season final event is set for Nov. 25 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Six champions will be crowned across six divisions, and the winners will take home $1 million each. But if fans want to watch the action live, they’ll have to cough over a few bucks to order the event, which takes place the day after the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. – aka “Black Friday.”

The promotion hasn’t released any details yet about a price point for the card, but it almost certainly will be lower than the UFC’s current $74.99 pricetag for pay-per-views, which works out to $15 a fight for a typical five-bout main card.

Is the PFL’s move to pay-per-view for the finals a smart one to test the waters ahead of presumably more one-off pay-per-views in 2023? And regardless, what do we think the price should be for this season’s playoff finals?

That’s what we asked our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Mike Bohn and Danny Segura with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia. Check out their responses in the video above.

“Spinning Back Clique” is released each Tuesday on MMA Junkie’s YouTube channel. You can watch the full episode in the video below.
