Video: Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty fumes at "worst ever" offside decision

Furious Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty hit out at the “worst offside decision I’ve ever seen” after his side were held to a 1-1 draw against Largs on Saturday.

McGinty was sent to the stands for his protests after striker Roddy Paterson was denied a late burst on goal by a controversial linesman’s flag.

He is now braced for a touchline ban following dismissals earlier in the season.

McGinty admits he reacted badly to the call but insists the lino should also face punishment for his own failings.

“It was a horrendous decision," fumed McGinty.

“At the time I thought Roddy was four or five yards onside and the video highlights I’ve seen since confirm that.

“I’m not saying Roddy would definitely have scored but he would have had a decent opportunity to get the winner.

“It’s hard not to react when you’re faced with something like that. I’ve been sent off a few times this year, some justified and some not, and no doubt I’ll now face a suspension.

“I’ve no issue with the referee. He said to me after the game ‘no hard feelings’ but it’s not as simple as that.

“The linesman is lucky that this wasn’t a relegation decider or a cup final. Decisions like that can have major consequences.

“It’s not acceptable to make mistakes like that at our level.

“I don’t expect that linesman to be given a top-flight game for a few weeks.

“It’s one of the worst offside decisions I’ve seen in my time in Junior football.”

Kilwinning Rangers manager Chris Strain was also left directing his ire at the match officials after his side lost 3-0 at Pollok.

Strain accused referee Chris Gentles of swearing at midfielder Tommy Maitland — which the whistler denies — and awarding a controversial
free-kick that led to Pollok going 2-0 in front.

He said: “The second goal takes the game away from us. It was crucial and completely unacceptable in my opinion.”
