Video interviewing startup sees boost in business as more firms recruit virtually

Video interviewing software startup Willo has seen a 300 per cent surge in usage over the last few weeks as firms look to hire staff without in person interviews.

Since the start of May more than 2,000 jobseekers have completed more than 400 hours of video interviewing on the Willo platform.

The interviews have been primarily within the software, healthcare and manufacturing sectors as well as those looking to bring in new staff remotely.

Willo has been rapidly taking on firms looking to resume operations across the UK, Asia and the Middle East.

Dundee-based mtc media, Plentyworks in France and UK-wide recruitment business Distinctive People have all made use of the Willo platform to interview staff remotely.

Willo said its technology is free to use for single job roles within any business, regardless of sector or size, meaning that businesses could test the effectiveness of the service without incurring any costs.

Longer term the company's vision is to make video interviewing mainstream and enable candidates to stand out in an increasingly crowded market.

Co-founder and CEO Euan Cameron said “We are delighted to be helping businesses across 40 countries continue operations at a time when there are more candidates than jobs and traditional interviews are simply not possible.

“Video provides a much stronger opportunity to assess personality and cultural fit at scale compared to a cover letter or CV.

“Furthermore we are in the process of developing additional features which should help businesses in the months ahead as they continue to adapt to the post Covid-19 ‘new normal’ and find new ways of working”.
