Video footage shows drink driver weave along road at 89mph after Hogmanay bevvy

Shocking dashcam footage released by police on Wednesday shows a drink driver hitting speeds of 89mph as they weave along a dual carriageway after a Hogmanay bevvy session.

The video, shot from a patrol car, shows the hatchback veering from the hard shoulder on one side to the central reservation while speeding north up the A34 in Hampshire in the early hours of Wednesday morning after the Bells.

The police dashcam shows the patrol car travelling at 89mph on the 70mph limit road which runs from Winchester, Hampshire, to Newbury, Berkshire, as is follows the drink driver before they finally start slowing down.

Once pulled over, the driver was arrested and was later found to be almost twice the drink drive limit.

An officer from Hampshire's road policing unit said: "A snippet of this morning's drink driver on A34. Not seen one as bad as this for a while!"

They added: "7.24am - member of public calls us about a car swerving on A34. 7.41am - one arrested for failing to provide [a breath specimen at the roadside].

"Taken to custody where driver provides specimens......62 when the limit is 35.

"It's never worth the risk to drink and drive!"
