Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2020: Watch footage of flypast taken inside balloon basket

Were you still in bed this morning when the Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2020 flypast took to the skies?

Well, don't worry, we have captured the special journey of the some 40 to 50 balloons with a video taken from inside one of the balloon baskets.

Reporter Tristan Cork was given special access to the display which had been kept under wraps to avoid mass gatherings in the coronavirus pandemic.

His footage not only showed the colourful array of balloons, but also gave a birdseye view of our city.

Alongside filming the journey through near-perfect skies, he kept readers this morning up to date with the progress of the event's flypast.

People across the city were urged to enjoy the spectacle from the comfort of their own homes as the balloons took to the skies.

Chris Allcock, who is chair of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, said: "Social distancing means we absolutely cannot gather in parks or Bristol’s open spaces or invite our audiences to see the balloons take off or land, to protect our pilots and the public.

"Instead we’re asking people to give them a wave as they fly past Bristol’s communities."
