Video: Fighter wails in pain after arm snaps backward

“Arms aren’t supposed to bend that way.”

It’s a phrase uttered by MMA onlookers at least a handful of instances per year – and it’s never good.

In a bout Nov. 24 between amateur atomweights Galina Maltseva and Ekaterina Demina, the MMA gods claimed another limb at MMA World: World Championships 2024 Finals in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

As the two fighters jostled for position in the clinch, Maltseva shot for a takedown. As Demina fell, she planted hard on her right arm – much too hard for gravity.

That moment in the sequence is when those who are squeamish should turn away. Demina’s arm bent in a 90-degree angle – the wrong way.

Demina (understandably) cried out in pain and grabbed her distorted limb, as Maltesva (like the rest of us) tried to process the gruesomeness of the injury she just caused.
