Ezekiel Elliott did not fly to California with the Cowboys for training camp Thursday, he did not participate in Friday’s physical or conditioning run either. According to Jane Slater of the NFL Network, the Cowboys and Elliott’s representation team are in conversations now to get the running back into a long term contract.
Elliott’s rookie contract currently runs through 2020. In 2019, his base salary is $3.85 million and the number for 2020 is $9.09 million. The 24-year-old wants the most valuable sports franchise in the world to make him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. Elliott is the reigning league rushing yards leader and held the same title in 2016 as a rookie.
It is unknown if the Cowboys will fine Elliott or not, as it is not required by the league in response to the absence.
