It has been announced that €500m (£365m) in aid packages will be used to help farmers hit by plummeting produce prices.

An angry protest by farmers yesterday outside of the EU council building in Brussels called for the EU to do more to protect agriculture and ensure farmers are given a fair price for their products. Jyrki Katainen the european commissioner for jobs, growth and investment announced the plans this morning.
