Video emerges of young woman being arrested after 'chasing boy with knife, telling him she was going to kill him' in Piccadilly Gardens

This is the moment a young woman was restrained and handcuffed by police after she was allegedly seen 'chasing a boy with a knife' in Piccadilly Gardens.

Witnesses said she was seen with a blade at around 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

Video footage shows officers holding the woman on the ground before appearing to take a knife from her.

They then lift her to her feet in handcuffs and walk her away.

A large kitchen knife can be seen in one of the officer's hands.

As cops walk the woman away, she can be heard shouting: "Get away from me."

A witness said the woman was seen chasing a boy in the gardens following an alleged dispute.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "She was just walking with another two girls. They were sitting on the benches by East Street and then on the other side of the bench there were three young males.

"She shouted over and they came over to the bench. Their voices started rising, she started getting upset. I could hear screaming.

"She was shouting 'I am going to stab you now, I am going to kill you'.

"She produced this knife.

"The young male started running. She ran after him towards the fountain with the knife, holding it in her hand.

"She was saying 'I am going to kill you now'. Then suddenly the young male stopped. She pulled the knife back.

"They started having a conversation. The rest of the group came over. They started chatting like nothing had happened.

"Somebody must have called the police or they saw it on a camera. They were there in just minutes."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a comment.
