Video: East Belfast chip shop on fire

Firefighters are battling a fire at a chip shop in East Belfast .

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service scrambled four appliances and an aerial appliance following a call to the Chip Bar on Upper Newtownards Road at 15.23, said a spokesperson.

A total of 23 crew are fighting the flames, which are understood to have spread from a fire in one of the friers.

A NIFRS spokesperson said: "The immediate premises have been evacuated in either side for safety purposes."

A PSNI spokesperson said they have closed the road.

"The Upper Newtownards Road at Ballyhackamore is currently closed in both directions due to a fire at commercial premises in the area," they explained.

"Diversions are in place however motorists are advised to seek an alternative route for their journey if possible."
