Video doorbells have have been helping police catch criminals across Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Police Division confirmed on social media that officers have been able to make "a number of good arrests across the city" thanks to the technology.
Video, or smart doorbells have built-in cameras which can capture and record images of whoever is at the homeowner's front door. Some can even hook up to mobile phones.
Police say these are easier to install, and often less expensive, than a full domestic CCTV system.
Edinburgh Police Division posted on social media: "They can be wireless or hard wired and are easier to install than many other CCTV security systems.
"Many offer additional features, for example being able to speak to deliver drivers and visitors to your home due to the inclusion of microphones and speakers."
They add that the technology can also act as a deterrent to any potential housebreakers.
The post continues: "Simply seeing a video doorbell may be enough for a criminal to look elsewhere. If they do try to break-in, or succeed in forcing entry, the video doorbell could have captured good images of the culprit (s) and be valuable evidence for the police in their efforts to identify and arrest them."
