KANCHANABURI: A teacher and her husband spent half an hour up a bamboo tree to avoid a wild tiger they encountered in Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary.
The unidentified female teacher posted a half-hour video clip of the ordeal on her Facebook page Book Za Sookzun on Saturday. It shows the couple clinging to a tall bamboo tree while a tiger waits patiently below, walking around and at times lying down.
They came across the tiger on a trail from the main office of the sanctuary to Ban Jakae. The trail is closed to the public and used only by park rangers and local villagers -- along with wild animals, including tigers.
The clip shows the woman reporting the movements and positions of the tiger to her husband about a metre below. The woman can be heard expressing fear that their combined weight could topple the tree.
After half-way through the clip, the man -- apparently deciding the tiger poses no threat or simply sick of being stuck up a tree -- climbs down, sits on his motorcycle and nonchanantly eats sticky rice while gazing at the nearby tiger.
After about 30 minutes, the tiger leaves, but the woman refuses her husband's request that she climb down.
