A stolen pug was tracked to a location more than 50 miles from its home by police, who filmed the moment that it was reunited with its owner.
Snuggles, was taken from her home in Northolt, west London, during a burglary, Ealing Police said in a post on Facebook, adding that her family “devastated".
However, investigators were able to track the pug to an address in Colchester, Essex, more than 50 miles away.
Police executed a warrant at the property last week, identifying the dog through her microchip and bringing her home to her thankful owners, who were filmed as the embraced their pet and thanked the officers for their effort.
Snuggles meanwhile, wagged her tail excitedly.
“Not only had the burglars broken into her property but they had taken her beloved pet and companion," police said in the Facebook post. “When the officers arrived and spoke to the occupants, they were also just as upset by how Snuggles had been taken from her home.
The force said it was very uncommon for pets stolen in such a manner to be ever see their rightful owners again.
However, the decision by Snuggles’ family to get her microchipped, in line with new rules for pet owners, gave them a better chance of being reunited, they added.
“Losing a pet can be very difficult but by microchipping your pet, owners have a much better chance of being reunited,” they said.
