The terrifying moment cars smash into each other in massive M60 pile-up

Dashcam footage has captured the moment cars piled up on the M60 following a multi-vehicle crash.

The collision, involving three cars and a van, resulted in five miles of queuing traffic just before midday today.

The incident happened at junction 17 for Prestwich and Whitefield.

At one point, congestion backed up to Worsley.

Those involved only suffered minor injuries, a spokesman for North West Ambulance confirmed.

The footage, captured via dashcam earlier today, appears to show the incident take place in the right-hand lane.

Three lanes on the clockwise carriageway were closed by highways officers while police made their way to the scene.

The vehicles had to be removed from the carriageway by recovery officers. Maintenance crews also helped clean a spillage from the road.

All lanes were eventually reopened just after 2pm but slow traffic remained in the area.
