NAGPUR: Mohd. Faiz led Vidarbha will face Rajasthan in the under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy opener on Friday. The One-Day encounter will be played at Azam Campus ground in Pune.
With the likes of the stylish left-hander skipper, middle-order batsman Danish Malewar, allrounder Jagjot Singh Sasan, Rohit Binkar and Gaurav Farde, Vidarbha is capable of challenging any outfit. The last season’s semi finalists — Rajasthan — will be wary of the settled Vidarbha line-up.
Vidarbha were the quarter finalists last season and their 7-run loss against Haryana in the last-8 stage game still haunts them. The batting line-up led by Faiz and Malewar would need to fire to keep Vidarbha away from such bitter defeats.
Faiz played under-19 Challenger Trophy last year. His attacking 145-run knock in the challengers had put him in contention for the under-19 World Cup. However, he missed the bus after he did not score against Bangladesh in a tri-series in November.
Similarly, middle order batsman Danish Malewar also played in the Challengers. The right-hander is the backbone of the Vidarbha side.
Vidarbha U-19 girls match abandoned due to rain
Vidarbha’s fourth encounter in BCCI’s womens under-19 T20 Trophy against Delhi was abandoned due to heavy rain in Hyderabad. Vidarbha girls have won 2 matches out of four including Thursday’s game. They need a big win against Goa on Saturday in order to stay in contention for the knockouts.
