Victorian power station charged over death

The operator of Victoria's Yallourn Power Station has been charged over the death Graeme Edwards. (AAP)

WorkSafe has charged the operator of Victoria's Yallourn Power Station following the death of an employee in 2018.

Graeme Edwards died in hospital after he was severely burned by an arc flash that occurred while he was returning a 6.6-kilovolt circuit breaker to service at the power station.

It is alleged a defectively attached "infill" panel was to blame for the arc flash - a release of electrical energy that causes an explosion.

WorkSafe on Wednesday charged Energy Australia with three breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act over the incident.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on January 13.
