Victorian police arrest women after fatal stabbing in Melbourne

Victoria Police forensic unit investigate the man's death.

Two women have been arrested over the death of a man after police were called to reports of a stabbing in Melbourne's inner-east last night.

It is believed the man and a woman were involved in an argument on Victoria Street in Abbotsford, when the man was assaulted with what police described as an edged weapon.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 9:30pm and the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Two women, aged 29 and 30, are in custody and are being interviewed by police and detectives are calling for any witnesses to come forward.

Police closed Victoria Street in Richmond between Church and Hoddle street overnight before reopening it just before 8:00am.
