Victorian police officers charged over excessive use of force

The officers were charged in connection with an incident involving a Preston man.

Two Victorian police officers accused of using excessive force on a Melbourne man have been charged by the state's anti-corruption watchdog.

The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission charged a constable with unlawful assault and assault with a weapon, and a senior constable with unlawful assault over the incident.

The behaviour of the officers came under scrutiny after they performed a welfare check on a man in Preston in September last year.

The pair are set to face court on October 11.

The ABC revealed CCTV footage of the incident in April, showing police officers subduing a man outside his Preston home and dousing him with capsicum spray.
