Victorian house in Bristol private square to be sold at auction

A Victorian house in one of Bristol's few private squares is to be sold at auction.

The property on Morley Square, Bishopston, is being advertised with a minimum opening bid of £550,000.

The Victoria house offers accommodation across three floors (1963 sq ft / 182 sqm) but is in need of refurbishment.

The property offers the opportunity to create a four-bedroom house with two receptions room in a prime location of Bristol, the listing states.

It continues: "The house is situated in one of the few private squares in Bristol, comprising 28 dwellings surrounding approximately 1/2 acre of private gardens maintained by a residents association.

"The house has been used as bed-sit accommodation but could be reconfigured to create a spacious family home with gardens to the front and rear.

"Potential for conversion to apartments subject to the necessary consents."

On the ground floor, the property has an entrance hall with stairs, as well as two rooms and a bathroom.

The lower ground floor - which has direct access from the front as well as the entrance hall - features a hallway, a large open plan kitchen and dining area, a bedroom, a bathroom and a lobby to the garden.

The first floor has three rooms, a bathroom and a landing with loft access.

The property has front and rear gardens.

Morley Square was created in the late 1880s and is one of about half a dozen private squares in Bristol, according to Network Auctions, offering a tranquil oasis of green amidst the busy streets.

Auctioneer Toby Limbrick said: "Morley Square is one of those text-book renovations where people can have a field day making the place as they want. It’s a fine property in a unique location.

"We’re selling the property on behalf of a housing association and it has previously been used as bedsit accommodation.

"The property now requires renovation, but offers ample space (1963 sq. ft) across three floors to create a substantial family home or conversion to apartments, subject to planning permission."

He added: "Having your own access to a private square in such a prime location will be a real draw for people. In these challenging times, people are thinking more about space and place and Morley Square ticks many boxes."

10 Morley Square, Bishopston, Bristol, BS7 9DW will be sold by Network Auctions on May 27. You can view the property listing here.
