Victorian girl dies in Tasmanian holiday tragedy

The girl fell 10 metres down the cliffs near Buckland, in Tasmania's south-east.

A young girl has died after falling 10 metres down a cliff in Tasmania's south-east.

The 11-year-old was on holidays from Victoria with her siblings when she fell near Buckland around 2:20pm on Friday.

In a statement released last night, Tasmania Police said "it appears the child was walking along the edge of the clifftop when she slipped and fell".

"CPR was administered but sadly the child died at the scene," the statement read.

"Her parents have now been formally informed. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Police said they would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to "assist in preparing a report for the coroner".

Anyone with information is urged to call Tasmania Police on 131444.

The girl's name has not been released.
