Victorian daily COVID death tally returns to double figures

Victoria has recorded 76 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sadly, 11 people having died of coronavirus-related causes in that time.

The number follows 55 new cases on Tuesday, 41 new cases on Monday, 63 new cases on Sunday and 76 new cases on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Murrumbidgee region has recorded a new coronavirus case in the last 24 hours after a Carrathool resident isolating in Sydney tested positive.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District officials believe the case is linked to the person having close contact with a case at a Sydney boarding school.

The new case brings the region's total to 56, with an additional 451 tests conducted over the past 24 hours.

Yesterday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has provided a glimmer of hope to regional communities by declaring the target to move out of tough stage three restrictions is tantalisingly close.

Daily average number of cases in the last 14 days in Regional Victoria has to be less than five.

Late on Tuesday the benchmark crucial to restrictions lifting dipped under the government target to 4.9 with 82 active cases.
