Victorian daily COVID-19 case number steady, but deaths rise

Victoria has recorded 42 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Eight people died of coronavirus-related causes in that time.

It comes after 42 new cases were recorded on Tuesday, 35 new cases and seven deaths were recorded on Monday, 41 cases and seven deaths were recorded on Sunday and 37 cases and six deaths were recorded on Saturday.

No deaths were recorded on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, regional Victoria will advance to the 'third step' of the COVID-19 roadmap to recovery at 11.59pm on Wednesday.

Premier Daniel Andrews made the highly-anticipated announcement on Tuesday, as regional Victoria continues to show more promising signs in the fight against coronavirus.

The regions have now met the two key benchmarks needed to take the next step, allowing for the further easing of restrictions.
