Victoria viewers stunned as major character dies in devastating scenes

Victoria viewers were left heartbroken over the latest episode which saw the death of character Nancy, who had only just discovered she was pregnant.

In Sunday's show the mum-to-be was seen joyfully telling husband Charles Francatelli that she was expecting a baby.

But after drinking a tonic to help cure her morning sickness, Nancy soon became sick with cholera - not realising the water was contaminated.

Dr Snow located the source of the disease in Soho and had the pump shut down - but tragically, it was too late for Nancy.

In tear-jerking scenes, the former Queen's maid was held by her husband on her death bed as she told him: "I should have married you sooner. It wasn't long enough."

Later Queen Victoria sat down to read Nancy's resignation letter, which she had previously ignored, and was moved by her former employee's devotion to her husband.

"As much as I wanted to remain by your side my heart took me to my new life," Nancy had penned.

An emotional Victoria was comforted over her loss by husband Albert and the bickering pair reconciled.

In the episode's final scenes, Nancy's heartbroken widower Charles decided to name his hotel "Nancy's", as a tribute to his late wife.

The heartbreaking scenes were too much for some viewers who took to Twitter to share their outpouring of grief.

"I’ve watched enough period dramas to know that was going to happen but it still hurts," sobbed one.

"Victoria has ruined me," said another.

"I was not expecting all this emotion in one episode," said another.

Victoria continues next Sunday at 9pm on ITV
