The promotional video for Tropicoqueta, Karol G's new album, pays tribute to some of the most iconic Mexican telenovelas. The viral clip features stars like Anahí, Gaby Spanic, Ninel Conde, Azela Robinson, and Itatí Cantoral. But one big name was noticeably missing: Victoria Ruffo.
Fans of the queen of Mexican soap operas were quick to express disappointment, assuming she had been snubbed. However, Ruffo has now disclosed the truth: her invitation was not a surprise. In fact, she was, and she turned it down.
"Karol's sister called me," Ruffo explained in an interview with TVAzteca. "She invited me to participate in the video that's now gone viral... but I told them no."
Her reason wasn't drama — it was professionalism. "They contacted me just a day or two in advance. And, well, I also have theater commitments. I can't just say, 'Oh, I'm leaving now,' overnight," Ruffo explained. "It made me very sad that I couldn't be part of it."
Ruffo added that Karol G's sister reached out twice to try to secure her appearance. "I feel infinite sorrow because I couldn't do it," she said.
In a hilarious twist, the legendary actress admitted she didn't actually know who Karol G was at the time. "My daughter Vicky scolded me! She said, 'Mom, how could you say no? It's Karol G!' And I replied, 'Well then, sing me one of her songs!'" Ruffo recalled with a laugh.
"My daughter knows her perfectly. She was mad that I didn't go. But truly, I'm very sorry I missed it. Maybe next time, I'd be happy to," Ruffo added

Another Latin superstar who did say yes to Karol was Cuban host Cristina Saralegui , who came out of retirement to interview the Colombian artist about Tropicoqueta, an album wrapped in an aesthetic inspired by the pop culture that prevailed in Colombia in the 90s and 2000s.
