Victoria Road takeaway Nanika broken into as police investigate

A Govanhill foodie favourite, Nanika, has been broken into late last night.

Nanika bosses wrote on social media: "Well, someone decided to break into the shop last night. While there is very little to steal here they did manage to take the phone you would call your orders in on, the other phone that operates the credit card machine, and the iPod that plays the music.

"I'm not sure how we're supposed to open without those things. Then again, if we don't open, we will also lose thousands of pounds worth of stock. So hey, Happy 2021. Will update later if I can manage to find a replacement phone or two."

The takeaway which specialises in Banh Mi and Bao Buns relies heavily on electronics as they don't accept cash, and operate a takeaway only service where they call diners when their food is ready. It's a system that has proven to work exceptionally well even pre-pandemic, and they are one of Victoria Road's busiest food outlets.

A police spokesman told Glasgow Live: “Around 11.35am on Friday, 15 January, police received a report of a break-in that had taken place at business premises on Victoria Road, Glasgow.”
