Victoria records no new coronavirus cases or deaths for 26th straight day

Victoria remains on track to officially eliminate coronavirus by the end of the week.

Victoria has recorded no new coronavirus cases or deaths for the 26th straight day, the state's Department of Health and Human Services says.

There are no active cases in the state.

The department said 16,409 test results had been received since the last update.

On Monday, the last active case was cleared and discharged from hospital, bringing Victoria closer to officially eradicating the virus.

That milestone is set to be reached on Friday, when Victoria is due to log 28 days without any new COVID cases.

Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews said Victorians could be proud of the state's COVID-free status.

"This is a triumph for the people of Victoria: we had a clear strategy, everyone made sacrifices, we stayed the course and now we've got no active cases and no new cases," he said.

The Premier also confirmed Melbourne would welcome international passenger arrivals from December 7.

Passenger numbers would be limited to around 160 a day, or 1,100 a week, and Mr Andrews believed Melbourne's hotel quarantine system would be up to the task.

"We're very confident that they will be the appropriate arrangements to have the Aussies returning home, to have our city open again."
