Victoria records lowest daily COVID case number in weeks

Victoria has recorded 28 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

It's the lowest daily tally recorded in almost three months.

Eight people died of coronavirus-related causes in that time.

It comes after 42 cases and eight deaths were recorded Wednesday, 42 new cases were recorded on Tuesday, 35 new cases and seven deaths were recorded on Monday.

41 cases and seven deaths were recorded on Sunday and 37 cases and six deaths were recorded on Saturday.

No deaths were recorded on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has signed off on the Public Health Order amendment which will allow border residents to cross state lines for "daily life".

It means the four reasons previously required to cross between Albury-Wodonga and other river communities on the Victoria-NSW border have been scrapped.

They were to obtain necessary goods or services; for care or other compassionate reasons; to attend work or education or to permanently move home into NSW.

But on Wednesday, member for Albury Justin Clancy confirmed the changes meaning Wodonga and other Victorian-based border region residents can travel into Albury to attend pubs, clubs, restaurants and cinemas and reunite with families and friends after the border closure was put in place in early July.
