Victoria Police have charged a man with assault after footage of him attacking a security guard outside Channel Nine in Melbourne was shared online.

On Monday afternoon Thomas Sewell, the leader of an Australian neo-Nazi group, appeared in a video filmed at the news station's offices in Docklands.

Channel Nine said the man and an associate arrived at the building and asked to speak to staff from a news program, before they were escorted outside by a security guard.

In the video the man is seen punching the security guard in the face multiple times and knocking him to the ground.

Victoria Police said detectives from the Counter Terrorism Command arrested two men over the incident last night.

They said a 27-year-old Rowville man was charged with affray, recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault.

He was bailed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court in July.

A 21-year-old Rowville man was released pending further enquiries.
