Victoria has new AG with cabinet reshuffle

Jaclyn Symes has been sworn in as Victoria's new attorney-general, following the resignation of Jill Hennessy.

Ms Symes, who represents Northern Victoria, was sworn in as part of a cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, alongside Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas.

She will take on the regional development and agriculture portfolios, while Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny becomes the cabinet secretary.

Premier Daniel Andrews' parliamentary secretary, Oakleigh MP Steve Dimopoulos, will take on the mental health parliamentary secretary role.

Meanwhile, upper house MP Harriet Shing will become the parliamentary secretary for water.

Melbourne MP and former Victorian secretary for Ambulance Employees Australia, Steve McGhie, will be the parliamentary secretary for health.

It comes after Ms Hennessy earlier this month said she would leave cabinet for family reasons.

But she intends to contest the next state election.
