Victoria Ekanoye says double mastectomy was 'easiest decision' so she can be there for son

Victoria Ekanoye says having a double mastectomy was the "easiest decision" for her.

The Coronation Street actress - who played Angie Appleton on the ITV soap - was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has decided to undergo the "invasive" procedure to reduce her risk.

However, she insists it was the easiest decision of the whole process to make as she wants to be there for her partner Jonny Lomas and their young son Théodore as well as the rest of her family.

Speaking on ITV's Loose Women, she said: "I'll be honest, when I went for the biopsies, I kind of just thought that this was going to be the case and I just don't want to look over my shoulder for the rest of my life.

Victoria Ekanoye opened up about her heartbreaking breast cancer diagnosis on Loose Women (ITV)

"I don't want to have to worry about, I've got a baby boy to love and live for and a family and friends and I just can't even begin to think about not being there for any of them."

Victoria explained how she wants to limit the risk and despite it being a "more invasive procedure", she knows it will help with her mental health and give her more "peace of mind".

Victoria Ekanoye had an honest and frank chat with the Loose Women panellists (ITV)

"So for me, if I can eliminate as much risk as possible, then I will so that's what I'm doing," she continued.

"Yes it's a more invasive procedure, yes it's a longer recovery time but ultimately if it just can take that large amount of risk away, it's just peace of mind."

She added: "It's really good for me as well because it just means for my mental health, I don't have to worry about it every single day, every time I go for that check once a year.

"So yes it was a big decision but it was one of the easiest decisions of the whole process and one of the easiest parts because, although it's quite invasive, I don't want to go through it again."

Victoria revealed her heartbreaking diagnosis a couple of weeks ago.

"It feels unfair. I feel a bit overwhelmed and I’m scared because, as optimistic as the outlook is, you can’t predict the future. I just want to be here. I’ve got a life to live and a family to love and look after," she candidly shared to OK! magazine.
