Victoria Derbyshire says I’m A Celebrity horrors can’t compare to painful cancer treatment

TV host and journalist Victoria Derbyshire has said how she can overcome any horrors of I'm A Celebrity 2020, as she has "experienced much worse".

The star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and underwent gruelling treatment before beating the disease a year later.

Victoria recalled her battle and the "painful" treatment as she spoke to Mirror online and other publications, ahead of her next venture in Wales.

Sharing her fears of creepy crawlies, and the famous trials, she said it couldn't be any worse than what she has been through in her personal life.

Referencing her cancer battle, she confessed she will probably remind herself during the series that whatever is thrown at her, she can do it as it can't be anything like what she has experienced.

She told us, about not being too fussed over the possible I'm A Celebrity shower scenes: "I've got a couple of swimsuits that are post-mastectomy swimsuits so they have extra padding at the front.

"I had a breast removed a few years ago so I don't feel exposed in them, as it is a proper swimsuit, that makes me feel okay about that.

"We wouldn't exactly choose to have a shower in front of millions of people, but it is only a few seconds on telly, no one is gonna be interested in that!"

On facing her fears, Victoria went on: "I won't know what I will be like with the trials or the environment, but going through cancer treatment was quite a big deal.

"Some of it was pretty painful, and I try to tell myself that what I went through few years ago, what I'm doing now cannot be like that, of course.

"So I have to have a word with myself and focus and, I think if there's a spider or a rat crawling on me, I've experienced much worse and I just have to remember that."

Victoria also revealed why she has chosen to do the show now, and it's all down to her teenage sons.

She said: "When I talked to my boys and my husband about the approach this year, my boys were beyond excited about the possibility and said I absolutely have to do it.

"It's the only TV show they watch, we all watch it every year but they both adore it, and they love Ant and Dec. They kept this a secret, or the possibility of me doing it a secret, since March or April, that is how much [they wanted me to do it]."

I'm A Celebrity launches at 9pm on Sunday November 15, on ITV.
