Victoria Derbyshire reveals difficulty of hair loss after chemotherapy

Victoria Derbyshire removes her wig to reveal hair loss after cancer treatment

BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire has spoken of the difficulty of losing her hair after chemotherapy in another video diary chronicling her treatment for breast cancer.

In the latest post, the 47-year-old reveals that she has been wearing a wig for the last month during broadcasts of her morning TV programme.

Removing the wig in the video message, she says: “I am finding this hard.”

Derbyshire used the video, which was posted on Facebook, to explain her decision to initially conceal her hair loss. “When I started wearing a wig a few weeks ago I didn’t tell anyone at work I was wearing one, because I needed a little time to adjust to it myself,” she says. “I can confirm I’m now fully adjusted to it and so feel comfortable in being totally open about it.”

She adds: “One of the things that I’m finding difficult to come to terms with is losing my hair. I would say I have lost about 30 to 50% of it”.

The latest video, filmed last month, shows Derbyshire undergoing two courses of chemotherapy.

She started a video diary when she had a mastectomy in September after being diagnosed with breast cancer in July. The former Newsnight and BBC Radio 5 Live presenter has spoken of her desire to talk openly about her treatment. In October, she thanked viewers for their support during the treatment.
