Victoria Centre explains why building was evacuated over 'incident'

Officials have confirmed why Nottingham's Victoria Shopping Centre had to be evacuated on Friday, October 1.

Shoppers were told to leave the centre and sirens could also be heard from inside the car park while the evacuation took place.

A voice over the tannoy speakers inside the venue could also be heard telling customers they would have to leave the building.

The speaker added in an announcement: "Attention ladies and gentlemen, due to an incident it is necessary to evacuate the building."

The incident caused concern among shoppers but it has now been confirmed a fire drill was the reason behind the evacuation.

A spokesperson for the centre said regular fire safety checks are carried out and that customers had nothing to worry about.
