Victoria Borwick: Ex-Boris deputy loses her bid to stand again as Tory MP in Kensington

Former Kensington Tory MP Victoria Borwick has failed in her bid to stand again in the seat, which she lost to Labour in a surprise result at the 2017 election.

Ms Borwick, pictured, who was Boris Johnson’s deputy when he was Mayor, is said to have lost because her Brexiteer views were out of step with the Remain-voting constituency.

She was at the centre of one of the biggest dramas of the election when the seat, which the Conservatives had expected to hold onto comfortably, was won by Labour’s Emma Dent Coad with a wafer-thin margin of 20 votes after three recounts.

She had campaigned to stand again but was knocked out when executive members drew up a shortlist of three names to go to a hustings on Thursday.

The finalists are London Assembly member Tony Devenish, local party treasurer Felicity Buchan, and Wiltshire county councillor and former RAF officer Darren Henry.
