Victoria Beckham: what has she said about her new Netflix documentary?

Victoria Beckham has worn many hats during her life – pop star, fashion designer, WAG – but now she’s about to put on a new one; that of a Netflix documentary star.

That’s right: a year after Netflix aired its documentary series about her husband David, Victoria is getting a dedicated series of her own. Titled Victoria Beckham (naturally), it’s set to be catnip for fans of fashion, pop, and anything Noughties.

But what’s it about, and when’s it out? Here’s what we know.

What’s it about?

(Netflix)

It’s a decades-spanning endeavour. Apparently, the documentary is set to cover her time as a Spice Girl, some of her life with Beckham, and specifically her time as a fashion designer. Beckham launched her eponymous label in 2008 (something that was treated with scorn at the time) and struggled to turn a profit for the first few years.

The show is set to culminate with Beckham’s autumn/ winter 2025 show at Paris Fashion Week, which happened in March this year.

What has Victoria said about the series?

Victoria Beckham (Netflix)

We already know a bit about the show thanks to the trailer that’s now out.

As for why she decided to make the documentary now – well, enough time has passed that she can talk about her time as a pop star. “I’ve been defined by a four-year period in my life. That was the Spice Girls,” she told the Times this weekend.

“It’s taken me almost two decades to fight that and I feel that only now can I look back and talk about it. I’m not going to lie, being asked questions about when I was in the Spice Girls was quite triggering. And I’d say those were the most difficult moments. It was almost like therapy for me.”

It sounds like making the documentary was quite a raw process – and when asked if she had any off limits areas during filming, she replied, “No. I mean, I touch on my family, I touch on the Spice Girls, the problems we’ve had with the business, you know, the money we’ve lost — there have been lots of triggers."

Beckham also added that she cried during filming, which was unusual: it takes “quite a lot” to make her cry.

When is it out?

Very soon: the show airs on Netflix on Thursday October 9. Not long to wait!
