Victor Wanyama 'still wanted' for Celtic transfer return as Tottenham star faces race against time

Celtic are still keen on bringing Victor Wanyama back to Parkhead - but the midfielder is running out of time to find a way out of Tottenham.

Our colleagues at The Mirror report Spurs are willing to sell the Kenyan to any club who can meet their £8million asking price.

It's also believed club chief Daniel Levy would sanction a loan deal - if potential suitors agree to pay £1.5m with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Lazio and Galatasaray are also interested in the 28-year-old, who is believed to earn around £70,000 a week in North London.

Those wages have dashed any hopes Wanyama may have had over moving to MLS this month.

Neil Lennon remained cool on a return for the former Celtic favourite earlier this month, hinting that the midfielder's price tag and wages could be an issue.

He said in November: "(We're looking) for a player like Wanyama, it's about availability. They (Tottenham) have had a change of manager, then there's affordability.

"Would I like Wanyama in the building? Of course.

"But it may not be an area we are looking to add to because of the way the midfield is functioning."

Celtic have already sealed a £2m deal for Ivorian midfielder Ismaila Soro this window.
