Victor Wanyama’s eyewatering deal from Club Brugge that shows Celtic could not compete for his transfer

The details behind Victor Wanyama’s proposed transfer to Club Brugge can be revealed.

The Kenyan midfielder has been offered a huge five-year contract worth £65,000 a week as he moves closer to leaving Tottenham.

Celtic were linked with a move to re-sign their former player in the week they moved to bring back his one-time team-mate Fraser Forster.

Hoops fans were keen to see their former midfielder back at Celtic Park but the money on offer from the Belgian club shows Celtic would not have been able to compete.

Brugge are poised to smash their transfer budget and wage structure to make Wanyama their highest-paid player in their history.

The 28-year-old is reportedly delaying his move until he finds out whether Brugge make it into the Champions League group stage, with the second leg with LASK Linz this week.

However, Belgian TV pundit and former Anderlecht manager Johan Boskamp reckons Brugge are taking a massive risk.

He pointed out: "He's has a great career and was an important player for Spurs.

"But then he got a serious knee injury. I'd want to check his knee was fine.

"For a Belgian club to be paying that amount of money for a player with his age and his injury record, it's a risk.

"But if he is fully fit, then he is obviously a great signing."
