Victor Wanyama's Celtic transfer tease as midfielder hints at Parkhead return

Fraser Forster has revealed former team-mate Victor Wanyama was straight on the blower to tell him to look after his No.67 shirt... for now.

The returning keeper will wear the number the Kenyan made famous during his storied spell in green and white.

The Tottenham star, who is in talks with Brugge over a £12m move, was adored by the Hoops faithful as he saluted the Lisbon Lions with his choice of digits.

And the powerhouse midfielder has had his medical with the Belgian side but a deal hasn't been signed despite a five-year deal being on the table.

Forster and Wanyama were team-mates under Neil Lennon and both played vital roles in helping Celtic reach the last 16 of the Champions League in 2013.

And now the Southampton loan star admits his old pal made a Hoops declaration straight after the keeper's Parkhead return.

He said: “I picked it, yeah. Victor was straight on me saying ‘keep my shirt warm for a bit!’”

Celtic supporters have been clamouring for a return for Wanyama who was a smash-hit during his two-year stay in Glasgow between 2011 and 2013 before he joined Southampton.

And Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino admits the time is now for the enforcer to leave North London after delivering a tough love message to the 28-year-old.

He said: “It's all about performance. Football is for today and tomorrow, not yesterday.

“You need always to show that you are there and deserve (to be there).

“In the case of Victor, he suffered an injury and another player stepped up and took his place. We are in a team, we are not a charity.”
